John Simon (1947 – 2010) was a well know Northwest painter, sculptor and printmaker who lived and worked in his beloved Skagit Valley for over 30 years, much of that time spent in a barn he renovated on Fir Island. His landscapes were localized, but also mythological places and sometimes held mythological creatures. He held an MFA from Cranbrook Academy, and taught for a brief time at Skagit Valley College.
