MEDIA AND TECHNIQUE

The animism which lies beneath the surface of reflected light is what fascinates me. I first discovered this energy was paintable after spending half a day sitting in a local cabbage field. I began to notice the bearing and glow of certain plants. I painted that. Then I began seeing the vitality in the riverscape outside my door, and more recently in objects and “still life”, which all turns out to have a radiant presence and reason for being in the world.

Most recently, my attention turned to images of baseball pitchers, their extraordinary intent frozen in sports photography.(Please see Baseball Paintings.) As I continue this lifelong study, investigating the aliveness of things, it may be that the visual spectrum is widening for me, or perhaps it’s another sense, connecting me to the world.
