Gallery Cygnus proudly presents “In Our Midst”, Northwest Modernism at its best, featuring sculpture and vessels by Clayton James, landscape photography by Mary Randlett and drawings by the late Barbara James.
This is a unique opportunity to view and purchase work from the Northwest School of artists, which also included Morris Graves and Guy Anderson, artists affiliated with Skagit Valley. Graves, Richard Gilkey and the Jameses shared, for a time, the house where Clayton James lives today. The cross influences of their time together and their friendships are evident in the work in this show.
Mary Randlett, friend and photographer portrait photographer of this group, is the Northwest’s premier living landscape photographer. She points out that it was her association with the likes of Graves, Gilkey and Barbara and Clayton James that taught her how to see the Northwest. Mary and Clayton are the last working artists of a generation that showed the nation what was truly unique about our corner of the world, spiritually and geographically.
Please join us for our opening celebration, June 8th, 5-7 pm at the gallery. Show continues through July 14th.
